Al Brazle

The side-arming Brazle spent eight years in the minors before landing a job with the Cardinals in 1943 at age 28. In Game Three of the ’43 World Series, the sinkerballing rookie held a 2-1 lead over the Yankees until the eighth, when New York exploded for five runs. Exclusively a reliever his last few years, Brazle led the NL in saves in 1952 and ’53.
