Al Mamaux

Pittsburgh native Al Mamaux was the Pirates’ ace in 1914 and 1915, winning 21 games each season. He was called “the new Christy Mathewson” in 1915, but dropped to 2-11 in 1916 and was traded to Brooklyn in 1918. He managed Newark to International League pennants in 1930 and 1931. A vaudeville singer during and after his playing days, he was dubbed “The Golden-Voice Tenor.”
