In 1896, pitching for the Cardinals, Hart led the NL in losses with 29, but he won over 250 minor league games. He pitched for 25 seasons in the ML and minors, beginning and ending with Chattanooga of the Southern Association. When he retired as a player in 1910 after winning his last start, he turned to umpiring.
