The longtime Midwest scouting supervisor for the Minnesota Twins began his scouting career with the Reds in 1954 and joined the Senators in 1959, following them to Minnesota. Messman remained with the Twins until his death in 1984, and his top discoveries included Graig Nettles, Tim Laudner, and Gary Gaetti.
