One of the first of several Santa Clara University graduates to reach the majors, Renna was traded to the A’s as part of a 10-player deal after the 1953 season. He hit 13 homers in ’54, but low batting averages sent him to the bench and then the minors. With the Red Sox in 1958, he was primarily a pinch hitter, batting in 18 runs on only 15 hits.
