A good fielder who lacked home run power, Stevens spent 23 years in organized baseball but only three seasons in the ML. As the Browns regular first baseman in 1946, he hit a soft .248. After his retirement as a player, he served for many years as secretary-treasurer of the Association of Professional Ball Players of America.
