Cliff Carroll

A first baseman and catcher in the minors, Carroll played all his ML games in the outfield, three times leading NL left fielders in putouts. The Iowan quit baseball in 1889 to be a farmer, but missed the game and returned with Chicago in 1890 to enjoy his finest season, with career highs in three offensive and three defensive categories. His 134 runs scored ranked second in the NL.
