Curly Ogden

The brother of pitcher Jack Ogden, Curly went directly from Swarthmore College to the A’s, but developed arm trouble and was sold to Washington in 1924. A righthander, he started Game Seven of the 1924 World Series as a decoy; manager Bucky Harris wanted to get lefthanded hitter Bill Terry, who batted .429 for the Series, out of the Giants lineup. Ogden struck out Fred Lindstrom and walked Frank Frisch, and was then replaced by southpaw George MogridgeJohn McGraw lifted Terry for righthanded-hitting Irish Meusel in the sixth inning. Washington won the game in 12 innings.
