Dave Engle

Like brother-in-law Tom Brunansky, Engle was drafted by the Angels in 1978. He went to the Twins in the 1979 trade for Rod Carew, and hit the first official home run in the Metrodome (4/6/82). Converted from outfield to catcher for 1983, he batted .305, and in 1984 was the Twins’ only All-Star. Never developing good catching skills, he became a reserve, and in 1987 was Montreal’s top righthanded pinch hitter.
