Dave Nelson

When Dave Nelson stole a career-high 51 bases in 1972, he always had the green light from manager Ted Williams, who rarely allowed any player such free rein. Nelson’s best season, in 1973, was the only time he was an everyday player; he had career highs in batting average (.286) and home runs (7) and made the All-Star team. It was his second and last season above .240. He later became a baserunning coach for several teams.
