Don Ase

RHP 1977-82, 84-90 R ed Sox, Angels, Orioles, Mets, Dodgers

Aase was an erratic starter his first four seasons with Boston and California, and was permanently switched to relief in August 1980. Undergoing elbow surgery, he didn’t pitch in the majors from late 1982 until June 1984. He signed with the Orioles as a free agent in 1985, went 10-6 with 14 saves, and became an All-Star in 1986, earning a club-record 34 saves. An arm injury held him to only eight innings in 1987, and in 1988 he served as one of Tom Niedenfuer‘s setup men for the last-place Orioles. Aase retired in 1990 after brief stints with the Mets and Dodgers.
