Dascoli, a respected NL umpire for 15 years, effected a baseball oddity. On September 27, 1951 he cleared the Dodger bench after a disputed play. On the bench was Boston Celtics basketball star Bill Sharman, who was also a recently-recalled Dodger farmhand. Thus, Sharman became the only player ever kicked out of a ML game without ever appearing in one. In the off-season Dascoli was a Connecticut state trooper.
