Fred Hoey

In 1926 the president of the Yankee Radio Network decided that every major sporting event in New England should be broadcast by a recognized authority. Hoey, who saw his first baseball game in the 1897 Temple Cup Series, worked all Boston home games until he died. During winters he held an executive position at the Boston Garden. In 1931 Fenway Park fans honored him with a special day.
