Celebrated for his dominance of Babe Ruth, he struck out the Babe 10 of the first 13 times he faced him, but had much less success against other hitters. The screwball that baffled Ruth gave Pruett a chronic sore arm. He studied medicine in the off-season and left baseball to set up practice in St. Louis.
