Joe Haynes

Haynes sandwiched eight years with the White Sox between two stints with the Senators. He was Chicago’s ace reliever in 1942 (8-5, 2.62, six saves), leading the AL with 40 appearances. His best season came as a starter in 1947 (14-6, 2.42). Haynes was married to Thelma Griffith, adopted daughter of Washington owner Clark Griffith, who brought Joe back home in a December 1948 trade with Cleveland. Haynes later became a Senators coach, GM, and vice president, moving with the franchise to Minnesota.
