John Mitchell

Acquired from the Red Sox with Bob Ojeda for Calvin Schiraldi and Wes Gardner in an eight-player trade after the 1985 season, Mitchell started 19 games for the Mets in 1987 when the club’s pitching staff was riddled with injuries.

Mitchell appeared in only three games with the Mets over the next two seasons, spending most of his time in the minors. He got his final shot in the majors with the Orioles in 1992, where he went 6-6 with a 4.64 ERA.

John’s brother Charlie appeared in 12 games in relief for the Red Sox in 1984-85.
