Romine did not make an error in his first three major league trials (68 games). The backup outfielder filled in while the injured Dwight Evans DHed in the first half of 1989, and Romine hit better than ever before. He kept up his production the next year despite having his at-bats cut in half, but fell back to earth in 1991.
