Leifield was an outstanding starter for the Pirates until a sore arm all but ended his career at age twenty-eight. He won 20 games in 1907 and 19 for the 1909 pennant winners. He threw three one-hitters, but in one, he got his team’s only hit and lost to the Cubs’ Three Finger Brown.
