Lew Moren

Moren was dubbed The Million Dollar Kid because his father, a wealthy steamboat and coal-barge operator, gave him $100 every time he won a game. Moren spent four years in the Phillies rotation. He went 11-18 in 1907 with a 2.54 ERA, slightly worse than the league average of 2.46. His best year was 1909, when he had his only winning record, 16-15. He threw out his arm one wet, chilly day, and quit rather than go back to the minors.
