A well-traveled and durable journeyman, Pattin was drafted off the Angel roster by Seattle in the 1969 expansion draft. In 1970 the team moved to Milwaukee and Pattin was named an All-Star the next year (14-14, 3.12). A 10-player trade brought him to Boston, where he had his best season (17-13, 3.23). Traded to the Royals in 1974, he split his time over seven seasons in Kansas City between starting and relieving. In 1975 he was AL Pitcher of the Month in June as a starter and in September as a reliever. Sometimes called Bulldog because he was a battler, he was more often called Duck by teammates because of his imitation of the Disney character’s voice. Pattin earned his bachelor’s and masters degrees at Eastern Illinois and is a member of the NAIA Hall of Fame.
