Rex Barney

Barney’s fastball was unhittable but all too often unreachable. In six Dodger seasons of unfulfilled promise, only in 1948 did he strike out more batters than he walked (138 to 122). That season he went 15-13 with a 3.10 ERA and pitched a no-hitter against the Giants. After that he grew progressively wilder, to the frustration of Dodger boss Branch Rickey, who even tried a hypnotist on him. Barney later became a successful baseball broadcaster.
