Rich Monteleone

Monteleone, the Tigers’ first-round pick in the June 1982 draft, pitched better with the 1989 Angels (3.18 ERA) than he ever had even at his lowest level in the minors. His strong showing as a set-up man was a factor in the Angels’ contention.

Monteleone was traded to the Yankees along with Claudell Washington, for Luis Polonia before the 1990 season. Tossing 92 innings in 1992, he nearly doubled his previous best of 47 innings pitched.
