Picciolo was Oakland’s starting shortstop in 1977 (batting .200 in 148 games) and 1979 (.253 in 115 games) but was platooned or used as a utility man after that. Among his shortcomings was his inability to draw a walk. He drew just 25 in almost 1,700 career plate appearances and none at all in 1983 or 1984.
