Scott Garrelts

The hard-throwing Garrelts was the best member of the Giants’ bullpen from 1984 to 1988, leading the club in saves each year despite never posting more than 13. He was made a starter in 1989 as the Giants experimented with Mike LaCoss in relief; Garrelts led the NL in ERA (2.28) as the Giants won the division title. He was the Giants’ first-round pick in the June 1979 free agent draft, and led the Midwest League in both strikeouts and walks in 1980. In 1985 he led the last-place Giants in both wins (9) and saves (13).
