Sherry Smith

Steady, if unspectacular, in 14 ML seasons, Smith was described by one news story as “strong as a horse and tireless as a Missouri Mule.” An excellent fielder, he went through both the 1923 and 1926 seasons without committing an error. Smith pitched three strong WS games, but lost two of them. In 1916 he lost a 14-inning duel to Babe Ruth of the Red Sox, 2-1. In 1920 he won a Game Three three-hitter, 2-1, but lost a 1-0 heartbreaker in Game Six.
