This gigantic 6’7″ 235-lb Kansas City Monarch and minor-league slugger battled leukemia as a player. During a four-year remission, he put together one productive major-league season, for the 1964 Colt .45’s (20 HR, 85 RBI). Bond began 1967 with the Twins, but died in September.
