On September 30, 1971, the Senators (managed by Ted Williams) played their last game, in Washington’s RFK Stadium. With two outs in the ninth inning and leading the Yankees, 7-5, fans swarmed the field and play was unable to be resumed. Thus, the Senators forfeited the game 9-0 to New York. A fitting end to a frustrating period in Washington baseball history. The following year the team became the Texas Rangers.
