A graduate of the University of Chicago and a former minor league general manager, Macht is a freelance baseball historian. He published Rowdy Richard: A Firsthand Account of the National League Baseball Wars of the 1930s and the Men Who Fought Them, with Dick Bartell (1987). He is currently working on a biography of Connie Mack.
